Witness Testimony

Dr. Magda Havas, Professor Emerita of Environmental Toxicology, testified regarding a proposed connection between radiofrequency radiation (RFR), including 5G deployment, and COVID-19 health outcomes. She presented four postulates suggesting that RFR may impair immune function, increase susceptibility to viral infection, and produce symptoms that overlap with those attributed to COVID-19. She reviewed published literature indicating biological effects of RFR, including oxidative stress, inflammation, cardiovascular impacts, and changes in blood properties such as Rouleaux formation. She also referenced U.S. state-level comparisons suggesting higher COVID-19 case and death rates in areas with 5G millimetre wave deployment, while acknowledging population density as a confounding variable.
Dr. Havas described experimental and observational findings related to electromagnetic hypersensitivity, including heart rate variability changes, autonomic nervous system activation, blood glucose fluctuations, and symptom provocation under blinded exposure conditions. She discussed international exposure guidelines, contrasting Canada’s Safety Code 6 limits with more precautionary standards in certain European jurisdictions, and criticized reliance on short-term thermal thresholds. She stated that radiofrequency exposure has increased substantially over recent decades due to wireless infrastructure expansion and argued that long-term biological effects have not been adequately addressed in regulatory frameworks.
In addition to her scientific presentation, Dr. Havas summarized results from an independent online survey she conducted in February 2022 regarding public attitudes toward COVID-19 mandates and the Emergencies Act, which received over 90,000 responses. She noted strong opposition to mandates and support for the trucker convoy among respondents, while acknowledging potential sampling bias. She concluded by recommending a moratorium on further 5G deployment, reduced wireless exposure through wired alternatives, expanded research funding, accommodation measures for individuals reporting electromagnetic sensitivity, and greater regulatory independence in public health decision-making.
