Witness Testimony

Dr. Christopher Shaw, a neuroscientist and professor at the University of British Columbia, testified regarding potential neurological risks associated with mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. Drawing on his background in neurodegenerative disease and neurotoxicology, he described theoretical and experimental concerns related to spike protein expression, lipid nanoparticle biodistribution, and possible crossing of the blood–brain barrier. He stated that distribution studies suggested systemic spread beyond the injection site, raising questions about unintended tissue exposure.
He discussed hypotheses regarding spike protein toxicity, neuroinflammation, microglial activation, and potential prion-like or amyloid-forming domains within the spike protein structure. He testified that these mechanisms could theoretically contribute to long-term neurological consequences and emphasized the need for extended follow-up studies. He referenced autopsy findings and emerging literature that he stated warranted further investigation rather than dismissal.
Dr. Shaw advocated application of the precautionary principle, particularly for low-risk populations, and called for transparent regulatory review and long-term safety monitoring. He stated that novel gene-based platforms should undergo rigorous independent evaluation before widespread deployment and expressed concern that safety signals may not have been fully explored prior to mass vaccination campaigns.
