Witness Testimony

Kimberly Warren, a hospital administrative employee working in multiple Ontario healthcare facilities, testified that she received three mRNA COVID-19 vaccine doses in 2021, initially due to employment mandates and later following strong internal encouragement for a booster. She stated that she had pre-existing chronic kidney disease but was not advised of specific risks or asked about pre-existing conditions at the time of vaccination. Within 48–72 hours of her booster dose, she developed hematuria, proteinuria, severe pain, and was subsequently hospitalized under the direction of her nephrologist.
She testified that she was diagnosed with a flare of IgA nephropathy with cellular crescents and necrotizing lesions confirmed by kidney biopsy. She reported requiring high-dose immunosuppressive therapy and described her condition as permanent, with ongoing gross hematuria, proteinuria, and significantly reduced kidney function. She stated that her glomerular filtration rate declined substantially following vaccination and that further doses could result in dialysis and transplant.
Warren testified that her physicians reported the event as an adverse event following immunization to public health authorities and supported her application to the federal Vaccine Injury Support Program. She stated that the program’s medical review acknowledged a plausible causal association between vaccination and her kidney flare but included statements she characterized as inaccurate regarding her treatment and disease progression. She further testified that her compensation claim is currently under appeal due to pending medical review, and she expressed concern about public health recommendations suggesting no change to her immunization schedule despite ongoing kidney impairment.
